The Evening

I love the evening. Probably because I usually don't notice the evening because I'm in the office all day. But the rare times that I do notice the sky getting darker and changing color, I fall in love with the evening all over again...

Who doesn't, Kaori? It sometimes makes me stop to see sun plays hide and seek with clouds. Can you see sunset from your office?

What is that plant? Floppy yellowish flowers with fruit that looks like a cross between figs and acorns.

I had a love affair with a certain evening sky in high school. I would imagine the sky an inverted South-Pacific ocean and the orange and brown clouds as islands in the brilliant blue sea. Such a contrast to where I actually was.

A few years later, camped in a state park north of Santa Barbara I wrote:

The longitudinal brushstrokes of the waves are painting a pale lavender, marbled web of foam on the fluorescent orange sea caressing the dark brown shore beaten smooth by the breakers in angrier times.

Above, the black silhouette shapes of the sea gulls puncture the sky in a strange undecipherable cuneiform as the sun ignites the spun-cotton clouds in brilliant flames which consume one and leap on after others not as yet consumed, leaping on after the sun, leaving only the moon and stars to illuminate the scorched sea and sky.

Nice thoughts and picture. I'm glad that we get a bit more daylight every day...

Henny, I can probably see the sunrise but not the sunset :( What about you?

Tall Gary, you never told me you were a poet! It pulled me into the beautiful scene at the beach, thanks for sharing! This yellow flower is called Robai here. I think it's called Wintes Sweet in english. Do you know it? I took a lot of photos it :)

VP, yes me too! I can't wait for the long hot summer days! The sun goes down around 4:30pm here...

Babzy, thank you! I think it's one of my favorites :)

Yes. Winter sweet. I had never heard of it nor seen it before. It is said to have a “stop-you-in-your-tracks" powerfully sweet smell. Thanks for letting me know.

Glad you enjoyed my “word picture.”
