Galaxy Express 999

I was riding this train back to Tokorozawa the other day. I was riding on the very front train car and it was completely empty. I've noticed that the train cars on the end of either side of the train tend to be less crowded.

Anyways, I can't imagine why I didn't notice this when I got on...but it was a design train!

These are the famous characters of the manga and anime series Galaxy Express 999 (銀河鉄道999). It seems that the creator of the series, Leiji Matsumoto (松本零士) grew up along the Seibu Line, which led to this collaboration with Seibu Railways and Nerima Ward.

The blond lady you see below is Maetel, one of the main characters (and one of the only characters I actually know of) in the series. The design really stood out and everyone passing by was staring at the train. Some were even took photos, like me!

i must admit the why the eerie 999 title? ^0^
that's a nice, comfy train though.
except for the title, i love the drawing.
btw, are those corduroy seats? ^0^
oh, i wish we had them here.

An empty train!? That's so NOT what one usually sees coming out of Japan... you know, the "packed in with white gloves" scene... :-D I know, it's not always like that; it wasn't where we were in Kansai. Cool designer train... adds color to otherwise drab vehicles.

The same thing seems to happen in the subway here too. I think it's just the fact that many people don't feel like moving all the way down to the ends of platforms. I guess that means more room for us who do! =)

The image I have of Japanese public transport is NOT: empty! :-) This is great and sooooooooo clean!

I like the design, and an empty train must be very unusual. Nice shots!

These are amazing images. Wonderful photography. Love the first picture most. Looks like a huge train indeed.
Years since last I saw such a movie. Have to say once again how much I like these images. Please have a good Wednesday.

Neat, Kaori!
Japanese anime is very popular in France. The bookstore/music chain FNAC in France has a flagship store at Les Halles in central Paris. The anime section is always packed with people. The French call the anime books bandes designée.

I like the design of the train and the thought that room could be found on it :)
And yes, cowboy :)

[Kaori, I'm not going to the Great Wall, I'm going behind the Great Firewall! :-D China blocks all blogs and social media sites! :-D There are ways around it, but I may not have time for that anyway... See you! Keep smiling!]

Thanks to your link (and another link at the bottom of that link) I am watching the first TV episode of “Three Nine.” If I finish this one maybe I will only have another 60 hours left to go! Fascinating photos with a fascinating, hitherto unknown, back story. Thanks.

Some cool art here! But that empty train????

Was it the middle of the night? I can't believe how empty this car is!

I think empty train cars are both relaxing and creepy. :) And I love it when art collides with the everyday world, such as the anime on the train.

It looks good and I think that it is a good idea to use something that a lot of people identify with. I haven't watched that anime.
