Show and Tell

Look what I found! This really cool statue was standing on the wall of one of the houses I passed by the other day.

See the elephant on the top photo?
Then look at the lion below...

What else do they have in common? Besides the fact that they're both beautifully made, of couse. Can you tell?

They share the same body.

I hope the lion is facing out of the house. I was given one in Singapore, and my friend tells me I must face it outside.

It's the same statue, right? Interesting idea.

If you don't have street signs, how do you know where you are if don't already know where you are? Does that make sense?

I alway take picture of statues of animals of any kind, when I find them.
The elephant is very nice, the lion a bit less plausible, but the idea is really a good one!

Clever.

@T.Becque: Well there is always this. Ha ha. Or this. You can find Tokorozawa in the upper left. Yay Tokorozawa! There are actually quite a few local police boxes called koban like this one in front of Tokorozawa Station. Go ahead, don’t be shy. Ask them where you are and how to get “there”.

Knowing how to go where you want to go before setting out helps. Having a good eye for landmarks and a good sense of direction is useful.

Oh, here are some street signs. I can even read them. By the way, that is a police box in the bottom left corner.

Sometimes there are directional signs you can find.

Cell phones must work marvelously. “I’m here, how do I get there?” So we are back to, “How do you know where here is?” There are general areas that can be found on electric poles along the street.

Still, if you are totally lost without a clue, double backing does wonders (if you paid attention to landmarks).

You would be fun to meet your first time in Tokyo, get out of sight of the nearest train station then slip away, leaving you stranded and alone. Coming back would be a good way to make a friend of you for life. Ha ha.

Ann. I think the lion is facing the house at an angle but his face is looking the other way!
