In The Water

For some reason I like this shot. It's a view around dusk from the bridge above Yanase River. Do you see the koi fish in the water?

Long and Narrow

This is another bridge that crosses over Yanase River.

It's pretty narrow but I saw a lot of people crossing it on their bikes. Very clever riding technique involved.

Now and Then

This bridge crosses over Yanase River.

In the 1970s, during the economic growth, the river was very polluted. But through the sewer system maintenance and community clean up efforts, Yanase River currently has very clear water.

Hopefully it stays that way.

Matsugaoka Regulating Reservoir

This is the Matsugaoka Regulating Reservoir.

At first I thought it was just filled with rain water. But then I actually spotted birds, fish, and turtles enjoying the water in the reservoir. It was nice to see so much nature in a man-made lake.

Shameless Statue

Some of you may remember Taiko Bridge in front of the restaurant Marufuku Shokudo I posted awhile ago here. Well, this is what your feet will see when you cross the bridge!

And look what I found in the middle of the pond!

Nice and Simple

This is the little footbridge that crosses over to the Japanese teahouse at Koku Park. I like how simple it is.

And if you turn around you have this view of the pond and waterfall.

Across the Creek

Eek! I'm running out of bridge photos!

But I remembered this little bridge over a creek in Koku Park just this morning. This creek is right by the kid's playground and is a great spot to cool off in the afternoon sun.

I actually wanted to get a photo with all the kids playing, but once I started taking photos, everyone moved out of the way. Oh, well.

From Afar

There is a bridge that leads to the intake tower at Yamaguchi Reservoir, also known as Lake Sayama.

The intake tower was built in 1934, the same year as the completion of the reservoir. It is said to be 35.2 meters tall, although you can only see 1/3 of it above water.

Would have loved to get a close up but only authorized people are allowed on the bridge. Darn.

Bridge with Flowers

A different angle of last week's bridge.

The flowers were hidden from the road and I had to crouch really low to fit the flowers in this photo. An old man walking his dog was watching me the whole time, trying to figure out what it was that I was trying to do. haha.

Historical Bridge

I took this photo with my new Xperia cellphone. Like White Oleander, I'm loving my toy camera application! (See her lomography photos at Næstved Daily Photo)

Anyways, this is Tokorozawa's famous Asahi Bridge. Like I've said before, I really like the tile arches on this bridge.

Kami Bridge

Kami Bridge is another one of the bridges over Azuma River. This one has a very new sign with the bridge name on it. It reads 'Kami-bashi.'

Sometimes you can see ducks swimming in the river below, but no such luck today.

Tunnel of Green

Seems like we jumped from winter to summer all of a sudden. I took a walk down the Azuma River the other day. The cherry trees are now lush with green leaves.

The reflection of the trees above on the river below is very pretty, don't you think?

The Last Of Them

This is the cherry blossom of the Weeping Cherry Tree, which we call 'Shidare-zakura.' They were in full bloom last weekend.

There are 119 Shidare-zakura trees stand alongside Sunagawabori, which I learned is actually the city sewer. Hmmm. But there are beautiful Shidare-zakura on both sides for over 500 meters.

Down the Street

Okay. So I couldn't pull myself completely away from cherry trees. But this is the street that I was walking along taking pictures the other day.

There's a river that runs alongside the street and there are Shidare-zakura (Weeping Cherry Trees) growing all the way down the street.

Lantern Lights

Cherry blossoms at night look very different. We call it 'Yozakura' in Japanese, which means something like 'Night Cherry Blossoms.' We Japanese love seeing the cherry blossoms lit up at night just as much as we love to party under the blossoms in the daytime.

There are over 800 cherry trees standing alongside the Azuma River and it's all lit up during the cherry blossom season so you can enjoy Yozakura! Seeing the cherry blossoms under the lantern lights is very beautiful and so is the reflection in the river below. So if you're in the area, now is the time to go!

The Yozakura lights will be up until April 14th from 6-11pm.

River Reflection

I like the reflection of the pretty cherry trees in the river. This is one of my favorite spots during the cherry blossom season. Happy Easter everyone!

Asahi Bridge

Asahi Bridge is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property as of June 19, 2009. It's a girder bridge that was built in 1930 to accommodate the expansion of the Tokorozawa Airfield, which was the first airfield in Japan. It was used to cross over Azuma River.

I like the way they used the white tiles for the arches.

Creek in Fall

Just out riding my bike and took a short break by the creek. All the trees are cherry trees so it's beautiful in the spring. But, ofcourse, it's still a pretty view now.

I like looking for something in the reflection. Nothing in particular. Just something...

The Creek

All the kids like to explore around the creek that goes through the Koku Koen. Trying to catch fish and frogs to show their squeamish parents, no doubt.

Cherry Blossoms At Night

Cherry blossoms at night are fantastic.

And the Azuma River that goes through Tokorozawa shows them off beautifully. About 400 cherry trees are lit up with lanterns from 6pm to 11pm until April 14th. The cherry trees stand alongside the river for over 3km...so if you're planning on enjoying ALL the cherry blossoms, wear sneakers.
