Tight Squeeze

I think this is a type of bamboo or 'sasa (笹)' growing between a house and stone wall.

There really isn't much space but this plant doesn't seem to mind the close quarters. This must be a Japanese plant...we all know how to live in small apartments or houses.

Thanks Kaori. Intentional or not, you nailed this one also.

I practically worship bamboo. I was told that sasa is the only indigenous bamboo to Japan. All other varieties were imported, mostly from China, and mostly by Buddhist monks. Sasa is noted for being about knee high. A kind of bonsai bamboo. Island ecosystems are noted for flora and fauna that are, hmm, what should we say?, smaller than mainland equivalents. Here in SoCal we have the Channel Islands—long ago hosts to the oxymoronic “pygmy mammoths.”

Think I’ll download your photos and add them to my bamboo folder. Whoopie! More bamboo.

Seems as though it would do some damage to one or both.

It's amazing how plants adapt. I always smile when I see some grass or maybe a dandelion coming out of concrete! This one is big!
