Akitsu Bridge

Akitsu Bridge is a very old concrete bridge that passes over the Seibu Shinjuku Line. As there is only space for cars to pass over the bridge, another footbridge was built alongside this one for pedestrians.

You can see the railway below and many train-lovers use this bridge to take photos of trains!

Your train looks like ours. You have the bullet train?

So... when was concrete invented? I have no clue! I like the yellow on the ground!

I like the view from this bridge. We have similar trains in Poland:)

Great shots that really show real life in your city.

an old bridge with modern housing beside. better to have a separate bridge for walking on, I think.

I would definitely be one of those people up on the footbridge taking photos of the trains. I am enamored with locomotives. Love the color on the train...but then, I LOVE trains!

How nice, to be on a footbridge. Then you don't get the pound, pound of the cars passing by when you stop to take in the view.

Frankly, I'm really surprised concrete lasts that long! Happy Sunday Bridges! ;-)

HI Kaori -- thank you for sharing your bridge and your City -- one I knew nothing about. I appreciate the opportunity to learn.

We have similar old concrete bridges around here, but many are in disrepair from salting the roads in Winter.

I think I'd spend hours photographing trains from that bridge.

Please have a good start into the new week.

I love the warm colors in the bottom photo. Really soft and appealing. Great time of day.

Can you guess why the bridge in the top photo reminds me of this song?

Concrete has been around for millennia as we can read here. If you click the “Pantheon” link (here too) you can see a concrete dome built by the ancient Romans around 126 A.D. It is still standing.

That concrete on Akitsu Bridge looks old enough to encourage the consideration of a rebuild. It is hard to say whether the eventual replacement will look more like this or this.

That bridge would absolutely be a great vantage point for photographers. Hope you had a great weekend.

That's quite a view from the top. I wonder how many trains pass by every day.

Footbridges are always a good perch, one over a railway is a treasure!

I'm glad they made a separate bridge for pedestrians. Much safer. :)

A necessary bridge.

Nice scenery and interesting place to see and experience.
By the way, I followed you in google connect. Hope you do the same. Thanks!

Hi everyone! Thank you all for your comments! I tried to find out how old the bridge was but no one seemed to know. But from the looks of it, it's been there a long time :-)

Ann, we do have the bullet train but it doesn't go through Tokorozawa. Too bad :-)

Ciel, like Tall Gary said, concrete seems to have been around for quite some time now. I had no idea...the things you learn everyday ;-D

Woody, that's something we don't do in Japan, salt the roads. Maybe because it doesn't actually snow that much here, but I don't think they do that up north where it does snow either! ;D

Tall Gary, if they do rebuild, I hope it's a mixture of both :D
