Look Above
Today is theme day and this month is 'Statues.'
There are quite a lot of statues at Koku Park. This one is of three young men holding a wing and looking up.
It was made by Kozo Naganuma in 1943. The statue was given to the Tokorozawa Army Aviation Maintenance School the following year, which was then located here. It represents the many young men soldiers who studied aviation and aircraft mechanics at the school.
This statue, which holds the dreams and hopes of the sky, is placed here for the citizens of Tokorozawa as a statue that prays for the comfort and peace of the city.
And if you're wondering what those three young men see when they look up. Here's the view!

A beautiful monument and a nice interpretation of what they were looking at.
Happy theme day :)
That is kind of you to show us what they “see”. Maybe they could see this, too, in their minds’ eye.
1943. I saw a Japanese movie last night that gave a glimpse of Japan in the late 1940s. Villon’s Wife is a good movie, I think.
What an unusual and interesting statue! They do have a wonderful view of the sky.
As it is said, that we are all one-winged angels, these guys are embracing eachother to be able to fly not only above, but even beyond life and its difficulties - I guess.
Please have a wonderful Sunday.

quite a unique artist and an imposing statue!
i like the way you tell us the story of the monument :)well done !
Sigh. I share their dreams. Well, not aviation, but wanting to fly. I want real wings like what they're holding! :D
Thank you for the comments everyone! And happy theme day to you, too :)
