Toko-toko Market

I found this great shop the other day. They sell vegetables and other products that are made in Tokorozawa. I bought some fresh edamame and kabocha (pumpkin).

One thing I like about this place is that they sell fresh vegetables that are in season. If you go to a supermarket now, you can find just about any vegetable and fruit, regardless of the season. I mean, it's great when you want to make something...but it makes you forget the natural cycle. I think this is a great way to appreciate seasonal food.

The store is open from 9am to 6pm. Mondays are closed.

They would also appreciate it if you would bring your own shopping bags.

Right now I'd love a dish-full of salted Tokorozawa edamame and a bottle of Ichban Shibori. Bliss!

I like their sign over the door. In green. I also like the idea of selling fresh produce to local shoppers. No doubt they deal with local farmers and are paid more than they would otherwise get if they sold to a large company. Nice Post.

Eamon, yum! Great choice :)

Abe Lincoln, it's very local. I like it because famers gain sales while the local consumers get fresh local veggies that aren't shipped in from overseas. Great trade :)

gogouci, I was pretty giddy when I found it! I've been back there twice already :)

Leif Hagen, chotto ne! But it's fresh, sometimes organic, veggies, which I think is worth it :)

Veggies in Saijo are local product, too. I haven't come across a shop that promote non-plastic shopping bag. But they do appreciate if we bring our own bag. In my language 'toko' means 'shop', and 'toko-toko' means 'shops' :).

Henny, what language is this? That's so cool, I'll have to remember it means shops :)

Bahasa Indonesia ;).

Oh, almost forgot. Several local languages there use 'toko', too.
