Four Pink Petals

After much searching, I'm pretty sure this lovely flower is a type of Flowering Dogwood, which we call 'Hana-mizuki' in Japanese. This tree is standing in front of Kita Akitsu Preschool.

I really like the light coral pink color of the petals.

Tall Gary's comment is fasinating!

What is interesting is that the clump of yellow/beige guys in the center are actually the flowers. The four pink “petals” are bracts.

Wow. I had no idea! So I'm going to have to rephrase and say that "I really like the light coral pink color of the 'bracts'"! Thank you, Tall Gary!

Another one for your notecard collection (I hope, someday).

I’m sure you are right, Kaori: Pink flowering dogwood. What is interesting is that the clump of yellow/beige guys in the center are actually the flowers. The four pink “petals” are bracts.

I like the pink gradations of color and how those “bracts” look like they are so happy to open their arms wide to the warm sun.

How alluring to play
She does, she does not
A heart, listen what it has to say

Probably the much better source to hear, leaving the blossom where it is, passing by, on the way to life.

Please have a wonderful Wednesday.

Beautiful pink flowers.

I like this tree.
Leaves of the tree change to red in fall.
So we can enjoy beauty of the tree twice in a year.

What a pretty flower. Has the snow melted yet?

Yes I think it is a pink dogwood! I have two white dogwoods in my yard and the flowers look like this, except for being white of course.

I’m embarrassed about my bad grammar. I improperly had a plural referring to a singular. I should have written, What is interesting is that the yellow/beige guys in the clump at the center are actually the flowers. The four pink “petals” are bracts.

Tall Gary, thank you for showing us the difference between the petal and the bracts! Those guys in the center are lucky to be surrounded by the pretty colored bracts ;)

VP, I thought it was back, too. Then it started raining yesterday! Can't wait to see your flowers :D

ρομπερτ, you always have such beautiful words!

Kristen, thank you for the comment :D

Nobu, you've given me something to look forward to in the fall, too!

Life with Kaishon, thanks for visiting! It certainly felt like spring that day :)

Arabesque, do you know there's a song called Hana-mizuki? It's by Hitoto-yo :D

Becky, they really are pretty, aren't they? But this is the only dogwood tree I've seen around my place. Hope more people plant them :)

White Oleander, yup we are officially snow free! But now it's begun to rain...

Lois, You have two? They must be very pretty right now! Hope to see photos of them sometime :)
