Tokorozawa Civic Gymnasium is home to the Saitama Broncos, one of the pro basketball teams in the
Bj League.
Basektball is not very popular in Japan. Baseball and soccer are much more known. But the number of fans following the Bj League is definately on the rise.
There were a couple of young fans dancing along with the cheerleaders during halftime.

I didn't know that basketball had caught on in Japan!
I'd love the light hanged up on the roof...
Like Leif, «Louis» didn't know basketball is played in Japan. He knew baseball is popular.
I'm not a super sports fan, but I love your first shot of the swooping structure of the basketball arena!
The little "dancers" are cute too. A new generation of basketball fans!

I agree with Dindin MK and Three Rivers MI about the diamond-studded curving swoop of a ceiling.
Fifteen, twenty years ago, before she became my (now former) girlfriend, a Japanese woman I knew was scouted in high-school to play basketball for the company team of a major bank. She was around 5'10" or maybe 177 cms. As you might expect, we made a "tall" couple. We watched a game played by some of her friends once here at the small Yoyogi Olympic Arena. On another day, you should have seen the heads turn when five of us, they in yukata, went to a fireworks festival. Wait, the heads didn’t turn as much as crane upwards. One of those times when all in the world seems right.
If she has a son, and if he has an interest, maybe he could become pro.
By the way, I met a Japanese pro-volleyball player who was taller than me. Maybe 6'7'' or 6'8"—more than 2 meters tall.
I agree the symmetry of the ceiling lights is amazing.
I've never been much of a basketball fan, though it's very popular here (which I think is crazy since Filipinos do not have the height for it).
I love the pattern of the roof and lights of this gym! Wonderful photo, Kaori!
Hi everyone! Thank you for all the comments! Yes, basketball is no where near baseball and soccer, but it's starting to catch on. Maybe one of these days, we'll see a Japanese player in the NBA!
The Civic Gymnasium was build in 2004, so it's pretty new. I like the roof too :)
The structure is amazing and reminds me of our basketball arena. Very nice action shot, players and fans alike.
