Plant Doe

Found these bright and cheery pink flowers on the side of the road.

I have no idea what kind of flower it is but the flower kind of looks like a hibiscus. But then the leaves look like a pumpkin plant.

I need to get myself a plant encyclopedia.

I don't know what they are either, but I agree they are pretty. I'm terrible at identifying plants and flowers.

You might ask Tokugawa Ieyasu. He and his family were quite fond of hollyhocks (mallow, alcea rosea, 葵).

It’s just a guess, actually, but do any of these look familiar?

OK. I wanted to find a family crest with both leaves and flowers but actually the Tokugawa crest used mostly just the leaves of hollyhock Plant Doe, or aoi 葵 as seen here

Gogouci, same here. I tend to identify plants as 'the red one' or 'the one with big leaves.' I call the one in this picture 'the cute pink one' :)

Gary, yes I think they ARE hollyhocks (what a name!), thank you! Amazing how you know so much. I'm going to have to look into it now, too :)
